Cycloastragenol is the member of triterpenoid saponins compounds family, mainly obtained by hydrolyzing Astragaloside IV. Cycloastragenol has the similar chemical structure as Astragaloside, but its molecular is smaller and more efficient, thus it is suggested to be taken by reducing the dose.
It has been used as an immune enhancer due to its ability to increase the proliferation of T lymphocyte. However, what makes the scientific community more and more interested is that its excellent aging resistance. Cycloastragenol stimulates DNA to repair the damage by activating telomerase and let the nuclear protease catalyzed the synthesis and growth of telomere DNA. Telomere is found by filaments which are located at the end of chromosomes. To maintain its stability enable cells to avoid replicative senescence and unlimited proliferation beyond the "Hayflick limit". Telomeres shorten the division cycle with each cell or subjected to oxidative stress. Until now, this has already been an inevitable aging mechanism. Cycloastragenol is the only telomerase found by now and delays telomere to be shortened by boosting telomerase activator. Thereby, cycloastragenol is believed to have anti-aging effect.
